TIME AND A HALF by Tom Jensen
I’m tired of real life
And what goes on out there
Lately I’ve been seeing
Lots of red circles and blue squares

As soon as I started working at Lowe’s
I started getting high off oil-based paints
Did you read my last rhyme?
Wrote it in big bright colors and shapes

Perhaps a better life indeed
Can be found right here in aisle three....
Oh sure it may bring you to your knees
But you just found a shiny penny
That lay hidden quietly beneath
Where the last guy didn't sweep

But… at least it's honest
So what if it isn't fair?
A guy's gotta feed himself
He can't leave the pantry bare

Can't leave any empty bellies....
Can't look at any hungry stares....
Gotta set the alarm for 5 o'clock in the morning
Sure love to hit that snooze button…but I don’t dare!

I got boys who want bikes
And girls who need toys
I’d get that look from my wife
If I was ever unemployed….

Sure I might get a check from the state
And shortly after the cold side of the bed
So that snooze button will just have to wait
Another month of Sundays before it’s pressed

So what if time and a half
Gives me blurred double vision
This is much more fun
Then taking my kids fishing….
(actually, it isn’t)
