THICK SKIN By Tom Jensen
If you sing my song…
First know that it’s long
A tale filled with broken hearts,
promises and noses

If you look inside my soul…
You’ll see all that I don’t show
My deviled horns, the blood-stained thorns
And wilted leaves of long-stemmed dead roses

Sure, all the colors
of the rainbow are there…
Within her eyes’ gleam, her smile,
the softness of her hair

And so are my dreams, my desires
my fears and my flair

If you read all I write…
It will come as no surprise
With most of those I know… I fight
As I now sit here wondering why?

If you find me all alone…
Walking along the path
down an empty road
Please, please don’t sigh

No, don’t go feeling sorry for this guy

If you truly wanna be my friend…
I… I will let you in
Without terms or conditions

Once you’ve been burned
What is it to get burned again?

It ain’t nothing if you got thick skin…
Or suffer from the sickness of indifference
It’s often the best cure for killing your pain

For once something is dead
It never has to die again...

Today all that remains
Is the echo of your name
That keeps on ringing in my ears
I keep on hearing in my head...
