STREET LEVEL by tom jensen
The street level sidewalks
At first made him feel vulnerable
and far less superior
But the three hour talks
Were simply so magical
That three years disappeared...

His internal clock
Told him it was time
To either move on
Or else move in

To either give up,
to see it through
Or else to give in
Since that's what
they're used to

When you let everybody else
Face you in the direction in which
They think you should be heading

As if when you wish
you could flick a switch
Just like you would turn
on and off a light

Wouldn't it be easy?
Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
If you could just sit right back
And let other people run your life

When you faced a tough decision
Or when you knew
you had to make a change
Call a time out and put them in
For certain plays in the game

At least there'd be someplace
else to point the blame...
