STATUES IN CAPSULES by tom jensen
All that’s left to keep you holding on
Is the memory of a loved one’s face
But soon even that’ll be gone
As the humming of the machine
Is growing stronger by the day

And while that face is beginning
To become erased it is you
Who also slowly disappears
All that’s left is the shadow of the displaced,
A sense of trembling and eyes full of tears

Oh…that sound you hear means the machine is here
Since it feeds off of fear it just keeps on eating
And eating and eating

Feeding off of everything
We are, we ever were or we ever thought of being
It will all be swallowed up
All our moral fiber and every goal of achieving
Keeps on chewing up until you got nothing to believe in

Every thought that you’ve been sold
Even the myth you’ve been born into
That has become part of you
And so slowly you’ve become soldered to

Has become a cement base which holds you
As you wait it dictates your fate: it encapsulates you
And soon it creates another human statue
One that looks just like you, in fact it is you…

Your mind’s inclined to say:
It might be time to give it up
When you’re forced to face the face
Admit the fact that every institution is corrupt

Yet you know crime only loans…
It doesn’t really pay
Is what people who think straight say:
After you get in… you gotta get out
Time to take on another nobler trade

Before you wear down or wear out
A lesson in life can be learned
So many different times and ways
But since your sense of pride is fake
Your still let you ego stands in the way

Since your senses have been dulled
As all light has been dimmed
Your face can’t see our fears illuminated
Or that we’ve got to regain power again

Maybe then we’ll all realize
The troubled shape we’re in
Then we’ll say, “To hell with statues
And being trapped in capsules

I only wanna be a man (or woman);
A free human being
