SECOND DATE by Tom Jensen
Sitting here surrounded by so many
Yet I am all by myself
The sky is clear
Clouds…there’s hardly any
It’s a nice day to go out
Out on the streets
It’s raw and uncut
Still sticking out of the suitcase
That was slammed half shut
The power’s in the mind
And it works both ways
Find your way home in the darkness
Or else be led astray
Time to turn the page
And write another chapter
You can always pick something else
If you can’t capture what you’re after
I guess it took awhile
Before I knew what I wanted to do
Yeah, maybe…
Perhaps I am just like you
I hear you say, “power to the people”
But I can’t find the strength today
So hard to think about tomorrow
When you’re still trapped in yesterday
My hand is but symbolic
Of a man who stands with a fist
Imprisoned by his watch
Which hangs upon his wrist
The clock upon the wall
It dictates both time and fate
I’ve been pondering
I’ve been wondering
And I have been pawning things
As I have been wandering
Ain’t got nothing left to trade
I know a man who lives by the book
I knew a woman who never learned how to cook
I know that when life throws you a curveball you better duck
And when you get a second date on your stone
Then your time is up
