SAME SINGLE WORD by Tom Jensen
I want to buy a phone
That rings all the time
One that only goes silent
When someone’s on the line
I just bought a clock that tells
And runs backwards in time
That has recently come to be
A favorite possession of mine
I’ve grown to love my job
Because it takes up my free time
I just got home from work
Don’tcha know I hate five-to-nine
I just checked the price of flights
Without any destination
As I tuned my radio to static
Just because I liked the station
I’ve been searching for a calendar
In which all the days are the same
And a new place to go and live
Where the streets don’t have names
I just read a book based on a movie
About a man dying from old age
And to my great surprise I found
The same single word on every page
I’ve grown to love my job
Because it takes up my free time
I just got home from work
Don’tcha know I hate five-to-nine
