ON DEFENSE by Tom Jensen
Sitting here all alone
Keeping one eye on the clock
And the other on the door
Should I go home?
Knowing this madness won't stop
And just sit back and relax
And see what's in store?

When your memory finally gives in
And you forget about where you've been
You can only think about where you're going

Hiding the pain that you can't relieve
All those lost feelings you find so hard to retrieve
Those thoughts you think that
You shouldn't be showing

Yet it is that which you truly believe
That so many others find it hard to conceive
That you know deep inside
That everyone should be knowing

Caught up here in the rat race of time
Slowly separating from the rest of mankind
Can't seem to free myself from my own mind
Whatever lies ahead I am willing to leave it all behind

Sitting here on the fence, man
Waiting for some kind of sign
Wanting to see the master plan
Through the eyes of the divine

Yet my patience is wearing thin
Perhaps I'll let this night pass
As I'm sleeping and let a new day begin
And continue my search for something to believe in
