Once I cared so much
That it tore a hole inside of me
But I've learned not to trust
That someday we'll all be free
So many crying faces
So many unfulfilled dreams
So many dying nations
With those too weak to scream
Once I played follow the leader
Once I was led by the collar
Once I lost to myself - my only defeater
Once I worshipped the almighty dollar
Oh, it's never quite that simple
Not everyone uses the same pair of eyes to see
Sometimes it takes a bullet through the temple
To make a man stop telling lies to you and me
Yet some people just get it
They just know the know
But the amount of time
it takes for the others is so, so slow
I don't know what all the reasons are
Why it takes so much time
I haven't figured out everything yet
Why some people are so goddamn blind
