FRIENDS AND COUNTRYMEN by Tom Jensen
“So anyone who rebels against authority
Is rebelling against what God has instituted,
And they will be punished!”
NOTE- Music fades in:
Romans: thirteen, two…
Just one of the things that religion can do
Enslave a race
And still keep your faith
“Hey, I was just doing
what I was told to”
Take some priceless advice:
“And so should you!”
They pay me by the hour
to think about whether or not
to stop serving power
And start pulling up weeds
And hacking down diseased trees
Begin to reseed a garden of flowers
Or I could be like everyone else
And when it’s time to work
Go run off and play
Leave it for another day
another day, another day,
another day
Romans: thirteen, two…
Is a get out of jail free card
God giveth to me
and you to use
Who needs free will?
They can pay people to
Speak and think for you
Romans: thirteen, two…
Helps keep the status quo
Locked here inside the zoo
Since we all couldn’t
Seem to get along
By the time we realized
Where we went wrong
‘Twas our fate that it was
too late to call a truce
