FIFTY TWO PICK UP By Tom Jensen
Sure, I know that you’ve been fooled before
Many times by false tags and signs
So why does this one really hurt?
Seems like it hurts more…

How do you know when
you’ve lost something good?
Once it became misplaced
did someone come and pick it up?

That’s one way to tell
if you’ve made a mistake?
Should you go blaming yourself
or just chalk it up to plain dumb luck?

They told you not to put
All your chickens in one basket
They told you not to count up
All your eggs before they hatch

At least that’s how you remember it
You know it goes something like that…

There are so many people in this world
Who just haven’t got a clue
This girl you met last week
Told you - you were kinda cute

So tonight when you came back to see her
Looks like your picture’s the one
hanging on the rear view mirror
And right now you’re wishing
you went to someplace else

For when your eyes finally did meet
You failed to sweep her off her feet
Since she was two booths away
And she wasn’t sitting by herself…
