CARDBOARD BOX by Tom Jensen
I started from nowhere
but ended up somewhere
But just how I got here
I can’t tell you for sure
I opened my eyes one day
Then suddenly there was sunshine
And having no memories
I had nothing to track time by
My eyes were closed
But soon they opened up
And once I saw the light
I couldn’t get enough
I knew that one day
The world would open up
And I’d get to explore
All the doors that were locked
And I’d get to find my way
Out of this cardboard box
That they placed me in and
I’ve tried so hard to get out
And it gets even worse when
You look up and it rains out
It’s true… it happened to me
I hope it never happens to you
You don’t want to be one of
The unfortunate people
Who get wet in the rain
Because they are not equal
To the people with money
Who get to buy a place where
It’s dry and warm and
It’s always safe there
But if you live to give to others
Rather than take it all for yourself
People will say nice things when you’re dead
Seems that frostbite turned out your lights
Once it started to get cold out
