ANY GIVEN DAY by Tom Jensen
This day was coming
The day of all days
The unthinkable enters your mind
The World Trade Center’s in a blaze

Your last thoughts wonder
How’d this happen and why?
After the air control towers lose all contact
As the sun’s not the only sight in the sky

The devil’s signed a new contract
Today is marked your day to die
As terror has no face
Neither hides in eyes
Nor hidden in a place
Strikes in a second
Yet stays for a life
Leaving weeping children
Comforted by a crying wife

Heroes are found
As evil is blamed
Two buildings fall to the ground
A covert hatred untamed

As words filled with scorn
Still fail to articulate
Our rose finds its thorn
However too late

An eye for an eye is written in red
As some wave banners of hate
And even though people still hurt
We must retaliate

Somewhere, someone must pay
Without a doubt the highest of price
Maybe then we’ll be okay
A tooth for a tooth, a life for a life

For the terrorists certainly know what’s in store
As the mothers of the enemy must suffer as well
For no one wins when you go to war
You throw away your bible when your earth is hell

So sad this is what it takes
For a great nation to finally unite
For everybody to wave a flag
For everybody to not sleep so good tonight

And yet small acts of hatred
Pass before our eyes on any given day
But everyone just keeps on walking
Pretending it’s never an obstacle along their way

It is true that perfection is never truly attainable
But is this way of life really sustainable
It was all bound to come crashing down one day
But no one ever figured they’d live to see the day
